Combine first 7 ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix well. Form into 4-6 patties.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side. When done, remove from pan and let rest to retain juices.
While burgers are cooking, shred carrots and cabbage and chop cilantro. Make sauce by whisking together yogurt, lime juice, ginger, garlic, salt and pepper. Toss carrots, cabbage and cilantro with dressing in a mixing bowl.
Wash and prepare lettuce leaves to hold the burger and toppings.
Assemble burgers in lettuce leaves, top with avocado and any other desired toppings. Slaw could serve as a topping or be served on the side.
